Approximately 260 saints from around the Island of Jamaica met in Morant Bay,
St. Thomas to commemorate the Memorial of the Feast of the Lord's Passover and
Days of Unleavened Bread. We were also blessed with the presence of saints from
Stratford, CT., and Hollywood, FL.
On the night of the Passover, we saw the struggle between darkness and light continue, as on no less than three occasions the service was thrown into complete darkness. However, being filled with the light of God, the saints sang the highest praises unto the Lord God of Israel.
The sermons were all soul-searching as well as instructional. We heard topics like: Self Can Stop Our Blessings; God will take His church from within the Church; The Principle Things of Salvation Should be Taught; Let This Mind Be In You That Was In Christ Jesus; We Must Do All to Stand; What Are You Working for an Award or a Reward; How Long Halt Ye Between Two Opinions.
The programs throughout the Days of Unleavened Bread were rich. We listened to otherwise undiscovered talents as the children and young people alike sang and recited praises to the Lord God of their salvation.
The Beginning of the Sabbath brought joys untold as the Lord walked in the cool of the evening. The sermon brought out to us that the saints have been given the Keys of the Kingdom so that they do not have to "bridge the Book." The spirit of the Lord flowed throughout the tabernacle on the Sabbath and brought the Executive Officer, Evangelist-at-Large Hall from the pulpit to the floor. We saw the Shepherd of the Fold take the Shepherd's Staff as he pranced before the Lord on His holy day and gave high praises to God. What a high time in Zion!
Following a wonderful Daughters' Day program, a masterful sermon from Island Exhorter, Sister Elder, St. Almira Reynolds entitled, "What Are You Looking For: An Award Or A Reward". The saints were treated to a wonderful dinner on Second Day evening. This dinner was prepared and served by the Ministers of Israel. The Ministers, assisted by the saints also provided entertainment for the assembly. This was truly a wonderful treat. The food was sumptuous and the program was wonderful.
Second Day was allotted to the Youth in Israel and after their program Evangelist Wesley Grant led an Evangelistic Team of Ministers and Youths to spread the gospel in Red Hills community and Yallahs. We had a wonderful time sharing this everlasting gospel with those that we met.
The Seventh and Last Day brought us together for the final day for this season.
The sermon on this day preached by Evangelist George Whyte, sought to build
up our nation. He reminded us of one of the favourite sayings of the late Bishop
W. C. Hamilton, "the success of a nation depends on the chivalry of its
men and the virtue of its women." Thus, the evangelist admonished the brothers
on how they should respect, protect and care for the daughters.
St. Anna Kay Knowles of Yallahs and St. Marjorie Elliott of Montego Bay were
winners in the Sabbath School Essay and Research competition. They wrote on
the topics "The True Church" and "My Dream of the Holy City"
respectively.
After words of exhortation from our Executive Officer we embraced each other
singing, "Remember Me". We were dismissed in Jude 24:25.
May the charge we received during this season take us through the year.
